PAEZ CUBA, Lisett Daymaris e TORRES RODRIGUEZ, Laidiana. Gender perspective in the cuban cooperatives: economic empowerment vs occupational segregation. La ventana [online]. 2023, vol.7, n.58, pp.83-110. Epub 28-Ago-2023. ISSN 1405-9436. https://doi.org/10.32870/lv.v7i58.7689.
Cooperativism, due to its particularities, has great potential in favor of gender equality, despite the latent inequities in the prevailing androcentric system. The article aims to argue the way in which the cooperative identity addresses the gender perspective, particularizing in occupational segregation that exacerbates inequality between women and men. For such purposes, a qualitative research methodology has been used, with a descriptive and correlational approach. The transversality of gender in legislative and institutional matters and in public policies in the Cuban case was valued. Women’s economic empowerment was addressed as a necessary process to achieve greater gender equity. From the theories of employment segmentation, occupational segregation was emphasized, at a vertical and horizontal level, given the hiring of women in highly feminized and more precarious sectors, which perpetuates the traditional roles of patriarchal roots. This proposal aims to promote female empowerment and provide a new epistemology to the gender approach in the cooperative field.
