HERNANDEZ-ALVAREZ, Juan Crisóstomo et al. Determinant factors in technological innovations: Pinto Saltillo bean variety. Rev. fitotec. mex [online]. 2023, vol.46, n.4, pp.429-438.  Epub 09-Abr-2024. ISSN 0187-7380.  https://doi.org/10.35196/rfm.2023.4.429.

Common bean is an important crop in Mexican peasant nutrition due to its contribution of vegetable protein, which represents food security and sovereignty for rural communities; however, it has low productivity. One of the strategies implemented by government institutions to improve yield is the transfer and adoption of improved bean varieties. The objective of this research was to analyze adoption over time of the improved bean variety Pinto Saltillo and determining factors associated with this adoption process through survival analysis (SA). Data were collected in 2021 through a questionnaire addressed to 203 bean producers in the states of Zacatecas and Durango, Mexico. The adoption of Pinto Saltillo at 2021 was found to be 87 %, while the probability of a farmer abandoning the technology within four years was 13.5 %. The variables that contributed to the permanence of adoption were yield, income from farming, income from Pinto Saltillo bean production and perceived lack of technological innovations. To improve bean yields, it is necessary that the dissemination of technological innovations is done through specialized technicians. This allows farmers to receive reliable and accurate information about the importance of staying with technological innovation. Survival analysis examines changes in explanatory factors about farmers and other changes over time.
