VALDES-DUPEYRON, Osvaldo et al. Characterization of vascular trauma in a second level hospital in Ecuador. A three-year study. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2022, vol.50, n.1, pp.20-25. Epub 02-Maio-2022. ISSN 2696-130X. https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.21000043.
Background:
Vascular trauma is an important entity in emergency services due to its high incidence of complications.
Objective:
To characterize vascular trauma in a second level hospital in Ecuador during the period from July 2017 to July 2020.
Material and methods:
A descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study was carried out, this included 45 patients. Measures of central tendency were calculated as the mean and standard deviation of the quantitative variable age, as well as the absolute and relative frequencies for the other variables.
Results:
Young males predominated. Penetrating trauma by stab and traffic accidents were more frequent. Most of the diagnoses were made based on clinical suspicion. The most widely used surgical technique was reversed saphenous vein revascularization in thirteen patients.
Conclusions:
Vascular traumatisms of the brachial artery by penetrating mechanisms prevailed in young males of urban origin, solved by revascularization with saphenous vein.
