Throughout the history of journalism, it has become clear that there is a complex relationship between the press and power groups. Recurrently, many journalists have been victims of violence for exercising their profession. This paper seeks to identify the main reasons why journalists are threatened and murdered, while analyzing the follow-up of the cases, based on the information presented in the documentary film directed by Manuel Alcalá called ‘Red Privada: ¿Quién mató a Manuel Buendía?’ (Private Network: Who killed Manuel Buendía?
