This article focuses on the curricular definitions of citizenship education at the secondary level in the Argentine provinces; these educational contents have been included into the curricula since the creation of the modern schooling systems. It considers the pedagogical debates related to citizenship and its teaching within the global processes of school reform. It collects the current compulsory education curricular designs for citizenship education; considering only the curriculum designs for the secondary level that each provincial State has approved, but comprehending the different levels of government and curricular definitions presented by the Argentine State. Thus, it analyzes the contemporary debates, as well as the historical imprints derived from the transnational circulation of citizenship education models, and the complexities that such international policy transfers have had. There is no similar survey in the southern country, since it discusses the current curricular designs in the provincial States, with regard to the contents related to the National Constitution, and its implications for citizenship education. Its main finding is that constitutional education in Argentina is unequal since local and international legal frameworks are emphasized over the federal constitutional regime.
