This work shows the importance of ideology with regard to the space / time order among any social group. The example used corresponds to the role played by places of worship where a Marian demonstration has occurred, such as in the case of Sarapiquí, Costa Rica. Re garding this event, the methodological approach takes into account that knowledge of the natural environment allows for the construction of various cultural strategies, through which the symbolic appropriation of space is achieved, and thus allows a series of natural elements to be prioritised with regards to the relationship between society and nature. The study of the appropriation of space involves concepts such as worldview, ideology and identity.
