SABIDO RAMOS, Olga. Sensitive Proximity and Gender in Large Cities: a Sensory Perspective. Estud. sociol [online]. 2020, vol.38, n.112, pp.201-231.  Epub 22-Maio-2020. ISSN 2448-6442.  https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2020v38n112.1763.

This article shows how the relational perspective of Georg Simmel’s sociology allows the analysis of the body and the social relations that constitute it, as well as the spaces and places it inhabits, and it is feeling. To demonstrate the above, I recover two analytical categories; first, the implications of the term exchange of effects (Wechselwirkung) as a cardinal principle that resolves the articulation between body and emotions. Second, the scope of the sensitive proximity category (sinnliche Nähe) that allows us to investigate the gender differences in urban experience, precisely the meaning attributed to the sensory experiences of university students, located in the street and public transport. I return to the main findings of exploratory research on meanings and valuations associated with situations of pleasantness and unpleasantness for urban young people (men and women) from a survey applied in 2017 in Mexico City.
