ZARAGOZA BADILLO, Jorge  e  GUZMAN, José Ramón. Economy, urban growth and local climate change in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico. Inter disciplina [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.29, pp.311-332.  Epub 26-Jun-2023. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2023.29.84493.

Several scientists from different disciplines have studied global climate change; and some of them say, that it is being caused by human activity on earth. However, there is local climate change, too. Hence, researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico have recorded differentiated temperatures in some areas of the Mexico City. Specialists know this phenomenon as “urban heat islands”. They claim that this phenomenon is caused by the geographical location, the climate of the area, the way the city has grown and even the country’s economy. In fact, this work started on historical and theoretical aspects of how Mexico City grew with its respective accelerated and disorderly urbanization, which had as background, the economic activity with its respective migrations to, and within, the area.

Palavras-chave : economy; migration; urban growth; local climate change; urban heat islands; Mexico City.
