LOPEZ GONZALEZ, Jesús Alberto  e  LASCURAIN FERNANDEZ, Mauricio. The Economic Rationality and Addressed Altruism of Organized Crime in the Age of Covid-19. Entrediversidades rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.1, pp.241-257.  Epub 04-Mar-2024. ISSN 2007-7610.  https://doi.org/10.31644/ed.v8.n1.2021.a10.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic causing the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is perhaps the most disruptive event that the world order has faced in recent human history. The pandemic has been a favorable space for various actors, such as organized crime, to actively participate on the national scene. The objective of this essay is to analyze the way in which criminal organizations are reacting to the pandemic, especially in the visible deployments they carry out in support of the civilian population through the provision of pantries, health services, loans, either in the territories where they operate or in which they wish to strengthen their influence. In particular, we will focus on explaining the logic these actions have and their consequences for the strengthening of criminal capital and the governance that these organizations deploy in certain territories and whose actions represent a serious threat to the State to guarantee peace and to impose democratic governance and the rule of law.

Palavras-chave : rule of law; altruism; organized crime; Covid-19; Mexico; governance.
