GARCIA FLORES, Ana Paula. Identification of adhesives in paper laminates and conservation recommendations for the Old Collection of the National Library of Anthropology and History (BNAH, Mexico). Intervención (Méx. DF) [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.20, pp.13-22.  Epub 09-Out-2020. ISSN 2007-249X.  https://doi.org/10.30763/intervencion.2019.20.216.

It has always been sought to intervene more heritage objects in less time and with more guaranties of stability. Later, the efficiency of a new technique or material can be overestimated and used on contexts and problems for which it was not developed; with time, they must be revaluated. This happened with the Duco Cement®, which was widely used on lamination and reinforcement of paper in the National Library of Anthropology and History (BNAH, México) and the Central Library of the National Autonomus University of México (BC-UNAM, México). For its identification first it was a bibliographic investigation which was later corroborated by means of a Infrared Spectromitry (FTIR) analysis. Finally, recommendations on conservation are given to the books with this kind of interventions.

Palavras-chave : adhesive; FTIR analysis; pH; cellulose nitrate; paper laminates, duco cement.
