San Cristóbal de las Casas, is one of the most important tourist destinations in Chiapas, Mexico. Therefore the city has experimented significant increase of services suplying due to the influx of national and foreing tourists. This demand has led many private, governamental, and non governamental organizations to implement actions to create new ecotouristic destinations, even communities have included save management actions of their natural and cultural resources.
In this article we analize the ecotouristic project Grutas del Mamut’s case, developed by which belongs to the tsotsil community Agua de Pajarito in San Cristóbal de Las casas, which represents an alternative in this recent tourist option. Meanwhile people retain their original workflow in the agricultural, livestock and forestry, they have also ventured into the tourism market, reflecting new forms of appropriation and reapproapriation of their resources. This phenomenon is analyzed through theoretical body ownership and restorating resources, ecological economics approaches.
The results presented in this document are based on fieldwork conducted through quealitative research helped by quantitative tolos, to local and external actors in Agua de Pajarito.
