JIMENEZ RUIZ, Andrea Edurne; THOME ORTIZ, Humberto  e  BURROLA AGUILAR, Cristina. Biocultural heritage, mycological tourism and ethnoknowledge. El periplo sustentable [online]. 2016, n.30, pp.180-205. ISSN 1870-9036.

As a result of socioeconomic changes in the Mexican countryside, new production strategies are developed to reinterpret their productive potential in the contemporary world. The rupture of the binomial field-agriculture leads to a reinterpretation of the new functions of rural areas and the diversity of activities of their inhabitants. Such activities include rural tourism, based on the natural and cultural heritage of rural areas. This article was based on a case study with a qualitative approach. Ethnography and participant observation were used as tools to understand the relationship between traditional knowledge and tourist use of local resources. We conclude that the traditional knowledge of wild edible mushrooms is an intellectual capital that may be used by various indigenous communities as rural development strategy.
