In 2020, the estimated population of Mexico was more than 126 million. Women over 65 years of age represented 4.4% and men 3.8% of the population. In 2012, it was reported that a third of the population over 65 years of age falls at least once a year. Only 40% received medical attention. We carried out a comparative, cross-sectional, retrospective study of a cohort from the orthopedics service. We included patients over 65 years of age, who were admitted with a diagnosis of fracture from March 1st, 2014 to February 29th, 2020. 72.3% were women, 27.7% were men, and the mean age was 79.4 ± 8.07 years. The most affected age group was super-elderly and the most common fracture was the hip. We obtained a significant difference in poly-fractured patients in the mechanism of injury and surgical treatment (p < 0.000). The population treated in this hospital is similar to that reported in the literature. The intervention has to be multifactorial and we must focus on risk factors to avoid a fall in older adults, in order to have a better lifestyle and reduce the risk of fracture and its consequences.
