ALVAREZ MORAN, Aldo Manuel; TORRES RODRIGUEZ, Hugo  e  AVILA SANCHEZ, Pablo Alejandro. Tracheal dimensions and their relationship with anthropometric measurements in the mexican population. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.3, pp.239-244.  Epub 06-Fev-2023. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/105726.

Objective:

Define the dimensions of the trachea through reconstructions by tomography and its correlation with anthropometric characteristics in the mexican population.

Material and methods:

Prospective, observational, and descriptive study in one year in a tertiary hospital in Mexico.

Results:

100 patients were studied, 60 male and 40 female. In the total population, the mean tracheal length was 11.45. The mean tracheal length was 11.33 in males and 11.63 in females. The highest statistical correlation was between the tracheal length and the anteroposterior diameter of the carina of 0.420 (p = 0.000), followed by the tracheal length with the height of 0.347 (p = 0.000). In sex analysis, the highest correlation was between tracheal length and height of 0.367 (p = 0.004) and 0.334 (p = 0.035) in males and females respectively.

Conclusions:

There is a statistically significant correlation between tracheal length and height in our three study groups. Hence, knowledge of these measures and their statistical significance in our population may be useful to improve clinical practice and define actions in surgical pathology of the trachea. More comparative studies should be carried out to determine which measurement method has the lowest error rate.
