SOTO AGUILAR, Casandra; SUAREZ ROMAN, Isabel  e  NUNEZ DEL PRADO-ALCOREZA, José Reynaldo. Mother’s perception of the obstetric care model during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic at Hospital Angeles Pedregal from April to October 2020. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.2, pp.168-172.  Epub 31-Out-2022. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/104279.

Introduction:

Our hospital implemented an obstetric care protocol for patients who attended without a test for SARS-CoV-2.

Material and methods:

The women with a negative result followed the traditional care model and those with a positive result continued under the SARS-CoV-2 protocol, consisting of strict isolation on the floor of COVID and separation of the binomial. After discharge to this last group, a telephone survey was carried out to determine the perception of care.

Results:

254 patients were cared for, 53 without testing upon arrival, they were kept in isolation until the test result, resulting in negative in 44 patients, who switched to the traditional care model and positive in 9, so they switched to the SARS-CoV-2 protocol. The 9 women of the protocol reported a negative perception of the model, and a marked feeling of isolation, loneliness, and discrimination. Breastfeeding was suspended for up to one month in 4 patients and skin-to-skin contact was deprived in five patients. Our obstetric care model managed to control the contagion since in the work area no health professional or newborn was infected horizontally, however it has consequences for the patients.
