VILLALOBOS OROZCO, Silvia Alejandra; HERNANDEZ ORTEGA, José Luis e HERNANDEZ AGUILAR, Sergio. Surgical criteria in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease at the Durango New Sanatorium Hospital. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.4, pp.201-205. ISSN 1870-7203.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a common disease in the world. The advent of pump inhibitors has significantly reduced the antireflux surgery; however, when medical treatment fails or conditions that do not allow delaying surgery present, it becomes of great importance to initiate a presurgical protocol to provide a timely and effective treatment. This study addresses a group of patients diagnosed with Gastroesophageal reflux disease at the Hospital Nuevo Sanatorio Durango who underwent antireflux surgery, in order to analyze the criteria used for surgical management. The group was composed of 151 patients, 57 men and 94 women. The most common symptoms reported were mild heartburn (99.29%) and reflux, of which 61.2% was mild, 36.61% moderate, and 1% severe.
Results:
Endoscopic findings: esophagitis grade B, 50% of the patients; C, 22%; A, 14%, and E, 13%. Manometry results: average length of the esophageal sphincter, 2.98 cm; average basal pressure, 9.46 mmHg. DeMeester average, 42.7. In this study, we observed that most patients are within the surgical criteria described in the literature; therefore, the results justify the functional alteration and the need for surgical treatment.
