ESCAMILLA CARDENAS, Renata. Tourism and Dependency in Mexico: Work in the Tourist Cities of Quintana Roo. Península [online]. 2020, vol.15, n.2, pp.31-54.  Epub 12-Nov-2020. ISSN 1870-5766.

Although tourism is currently one of the fastest growing activities worldwide, its regional distribution has not been homogenous, being accelerated in dependent economies, reproducing a subordinate condition as an activity that depends on the foreign market. It should also be taken into account that this activity is led by foreign capital making possible a set of seasonal, eventual and intensive work carried out by an unskilled labor force. In addition, since production and consumption take place in the same territory, a festival becomes one of the favored spaces for tourism in Mexico. This situation affects the conditions of life of the workforce attracted to the Yucatán peninsula in search of employment.

Palavras-chave : tourism; international division of labor; dependency; productive specialization; production of tourist spaces.
