PAREDES MARIN, Verónica Haydee  e  PENA SANCHEZ, Edith Yesenia. Inhabiting Liminality: the Link between Territory and Health on the Border between Soconusco Alto and the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2021, vol.16, e504.  Epub 28-Abr-2023. ISSN 1870-4115.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2021.v16.504.

This paper analyzes the link between territory and health conditions of the border inhabitants settled at the skirts of Tacaná Volcano in Yalú, Guatemala, and its codependence with Unión Juárez, Chiapas. Ethnographic work, conducted between 2014 and 2019, enabled a portrayal of the border dynamics influencing the search or conservation of community well-being. This phenomenon is based on the creation or strengthening of social bonds typical of liminal territories, expressed through circularity, community codependence, and strategies that capitalize on regulatory laxity existing due to the absence of the State in the field of health.

Palavras-chave : liminal territory; community health; southern border; circularity in the border buffer zone..
