Objective: to analyze the administrative structure of the bluefin tuna capture and fattening ranches, in Ensenada, Baja California to learn about the value and supply chain management, the collaboration with academics, the access to financing and promotion, and the bluefin tuna’s international sustainability measures effect on exports to the Japanese market. Methodology: mixed study emphasizing the qualitative approach by means of interviews to key informants. Results: the reconstruction of the productive chain contrasting the degree of contribution of the academy, financial institutions and government. Limitations: interviews were mostly virtual, reducing nonverbal language, interest and motivation, others face-to-face. Value: empirical study about the fishery of in the wild endangered species, which is highly profitable and valued by the export market. Conclusions: a strategic linkage associated with its geographic location is evident, rare concurrence of the triple helix model, influence of the market and international organizations in charge of the sustainability of the species.
