ARAGONES, Ana María e SALGADO, Uberto. Skilled Migration from China, India, and Mexico to the United States: Analysis of the Re-directioning of Migratory Patterns in the Recent Past. Norteamérica [online]. 2019, vol.14, n.1, pp.183-211. Epub 30-Jun-2020. ISSN 2448-7228. https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2019.1.356.
Migratory patterns have changed since the 2008 crisis; outstanding among the changes are increasing flows of highly qualified migrants heading to the United States, which is seeking to maintain its leadership in technological innovations. However, it is facing adverse structural demographic and educational conditions that explain why the migration of highly skilled labor has become central. This is the case particularly with regard to those coming from China and India to satisfy the huge demand for workers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); these flows are greater than those of Mexican migrants.
