CASTRO SALAZAR, Jesús Ignacio; CARPIO DOMINGUEZ, José Luis e ARROYO QUIROZ, Inés. Actions and Institutional Limitations in the Application of Forest Legislation in Mexico between 2009-2019. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.22, 00021. Epub 16-Fev-2024. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl112220211325.
The objective of the study is to explore and analyze the actions of application of the legislation on forestry in Mexico by state. The study analyzes public institutional databases and interviews environmental inspectors. There is little research that analyzes the application of forest legislation. The application of forest legislation helps to monitor and detect forest crimes that damage ecosystems and threaten wild species. The illegal deforestation rates suggest that the application of forestry regulations in Mexico is far from what is expected of it. The amount of forest area and forest densities, as well as the increase in forest production, show a great diversity of actions that demand the application of the law. In practice, few forest inspection actions are carried out, there is little staff and a limited institutional budget to apply the law. States with large forest areas or high forest production have few personnel to enforce the law.
