El voto de oposición al segundo piso del Periférico. Una contribución empírica sobre su geografía y posibles mecanismos causales*
The Opposition Vote to Periferico's Second Floor

Este estudio presenta la geografía y algunos posibles mecanismos causales del voto de oposición en el plebiscito a la construcción del segundo piso del Periférico en la Ciudad de México. Contiene una revisión de la literatura especializada, una descripción de la obra y el plebiscito, sus resultados, indicadores socioeconómicos, y la aplicación de diversas técnicas de estadística espacial y pruebas no paramétricas. El análisis realizado muestra la existencia de explicaciones geográficas y socioeconómicas sobre el voto de oposición. Geográficamente se encontró que el voto de oposición fue mayor en promedio y en varianza en la zona alrededor de la obra. En lo socioeconómico se encontró que las áreas de la ciudad con los mejores salarios tendieron a oponerse a la construcción de la obra, mientras que las áreas con los mayores niveles de marginación tendieron a aceptarla. Se detectó una correlación negativa entre el porcentaje de voto perredista para jefe de gobierno y el porcentaje de voto de oposición a la obra pero este hallazgo requiere de una mayor elaboración.

This study presents (1) the geography of the opposition vote to a major transportation construction project in Mexico City and (2) a discussion of its possible causal mechanisms. It contains a revision of previous studies, a description of the project and the referendum results, and another description of the spatial and non-parametric statistical methods applied. The analysis shows the presence of geographic and socioeconomic explanations for the vote of opposition. In geographical terms, it was found that opposition was larger, in average and variance, in the areas surrounding the project. In terms of socioeconomic explanations, it was found that higher income areas tended to oppose the project, whereas poorer areas tended to accept it. It was also detected a negative correlation between the PRD local government vote and the vote of opposition to the project, yet this finding requires further elaboration.
