TORRES-MARTINEZ, Laura Alicia et al. Simulation of cleaning a contaminated surgical wound using a biological model. Cir. gen [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.4, pp.251-254. ISSN 1405-0099.

Abstract Wounds are defi ned as the loss of the integrity of soft tissue on any part of the body, and can be classifi ed according to their etiology, morphology, complexity, time of evolution, and level of contamination. Contaminated wound management is the responsibility of medical trainees and physicians at any level of hospitality care. Adequate intervention of wounds requires anatomical knowledge of the region involved, surgical technique, complications, etc. This article has as its aim to present a biological model of the leg of a pig, that simulates the technique of surgical washing of a contaminated wound. It is proposed to perform this practice with undergraduate medical students, as it is an accessible, ethical, and with a high-similarity to human tissue It can be used to repeat the procedure until suffi cient skill and knowledge is acquired before contact with patients, as well as being useful for post-graduates in order to improve their surgical skills.
