MORENO-RAVELO, Ivón Alejandra  e  PENA-OLVERA, Silvia. Anesthetic management of hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia in the newborn. Rev. mex. anestesiol. [online]. 2022, vol.45, n.4, pp.289-292.  Epub 03-Fev-2023. ISSN 0484-7903.  https://doi.org/10.35366/106350.

Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of the newborn is a hereditary disease that presents with alterations in pancreatic cells; the estimated incidence is 1/50,000 newly borns increasing in cases of consanguinity. Pathology considered as the main cause of hypoglycemia in this age group with a high risk of brain damage and mental retardation, significantly impacting neurodevelopment. Euglycemia and the prevention of brain injury from neuroglucopenia are the main objectives of medical treatment. During the transanesthetic of a pancreatectomy, the glucose levels are useful as markers; the objective of the perioperative management is to keep hemodynamic stability and euglycemia through proper fluid handling. In this case report we present a two-month-old female patient with a diagnosis of hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia with severe hypoglycemia associated with seizures that enters the operating room for subtotal pancreatectomy.
