SOSA SANCHEZ, Itzel Adriana  e  MENKES BANCET, Catherine. Institutional violence, teenage pregnancy, and teenage sexual and reproductive rights. Alteridades [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.64, pp.89-98.  Epub 20-Fev-2023. ISSN 2448-850X.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/izt/dcsh/alteridades/2022v32n64/sosa.

The imposition of or coercion as part of the use of contraceptive methods in reproductive health spaces constitutes a seldom-explored problem in the Mexican teenage population and forms part of a continuum of structural violence that infringes on their health and rights. Findings from a qualitative study with teenagers are presented, which suggest that, in the convergence between this population and health personnel in institutional contexts, social inequalities and moral and sexual panics are updated and reproduced and the social hegemonic perception about teenage pregnancy, reproduction, and sexuality are expressed. While the results do not encompass the whole teenage population, they pick out a general lack of awareness regarding their sexual and reproductive rights, which contributes to the expansion and normalization of diverse forms of institutional violence.

Palavras-chave : contraceptives; gender; social inequality; reproductive regulations.
