This paper describes the optical characterization of the Coyuca de Benítez coastal lagoon during August 1992 and December 1992. Such characterization was achieved by using a spectroradiometer, measuring both the volumetric reflectance R(λ) and the diffuse attenuation coefficient K_d(λ z) from a small boat. Areas with optical differences were identified through a statistical cluster analysis. The different optical areas identified by this methodology correspond to clearly delimited bio-optical regions.
