Effects of mineral fertilization (20-20-20 and 12-12- 17 + 2 Mg) combined with colonization of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae) were determined on cut snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus L.). Growth and commercial quality of cv. Rose series Potomac group IV was evaluated under greenhouse conditions. Two evaluation criteria were implemented: a) growth and developmental traits, and b) American Society of Florist commercial (ASF) standards. Our studies indicated that higher N-P-K additions significantly increased dry matter accumulation, stem length, leaf area and quality index. However, determination of ASF commercial classification standards showed that similar quality was obtained with both fertilization programs. The addition of arbuscular micorrizical fungi to both mineral fertilization regimes promoted an overall increase in growth and developmental traits. Moreover, when ASF standards were determined, 100% of the flowering stems produced by 20-20-20 + Gm, obtained special and sophisticated classification (92 and 8% respectively), the highest categories conferred by ASF standards to cut snapdragon stems. Reductions in the addition of NPK combined with any of the HMA used, led to commercial grades below those obtained with 20-20-20 + Gm, while the use of commercial fertilizer doses recommended for A. majus seem to require a reassessment. The addition of HMA in combination with the recommended doses for A. majus (20-20-20 + Gm) promoted increases in the commercial quality of the stems produced in accordance with established standards for classification and commercial supply.
