Since the disappearance of forty-three students of the Ayotzinapa rural teacher training school, awareness of this event has spread thanks to the willingness of colleagues and relatives to make visible and public the circumstances of this disappearance, as well as the judicial investigation process that followed. However, a tension between the visible and the invisible prevails regarding how the missing students and their bodies have been investigated, publicized and recorded. Based on a succinct restitution of facts, this essay questions how the actions of different actors such as students, relatives of the disappeared, national authorities and international experts contribute to the visibility (or invisibility) of enforced disappearance.
