MUJICA, Jaris. Actors and Scenarios in Systems of Micro-corruption at the Palace of Justice in Downtown Lima. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.126, pp.87-117. ISSN 2448-7554.
The Palace of Justice in downtown Lima is the central site for processes in Peru's judicial system, but it is also a space that generates a variety of corrupt practices. This article reveals the actors and forms of corruption involved from a perspective external to the formal bureaucracy that examines the functions performed by document processors, falsifiers and lawyers from the informal offices that swarm around the Palace's periphery. Those actors employ strategies to introduce documents into, or extract them from, officials' desks, to forge contacts with assistants, secretaries and lawyers in the tribunals, to gain knowledge of the structures of the formal and informal functioning of the judicial apparatus, and to configure, based on those practices, a channel that allows them to enter the system, accede to justice and become involved in judicial procedures.
