DELFIN GUILLAUMIN, Martha. Los pirindas de Michoacán: ¿inicio de un proceso de etnogénesis?. Cuicuilco [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.50, pp.145-158. ISSN 0185-1659.
This article is about the Pirinda, an indomexican group also know as Matlatzinca, located in what is now the State of Michoacán since the prehispanic Postclassic period. While Matlatzincas populated an area close to the Nevado de Toluca volcano, part of the population moved to Michoacan during a period of conflict between the P'urhépecha and the Mexica. As allies of the P'urhépecha, they were permited to settle in the frontier of the P'urhépecha (or Tarascan) State. Today the descendants of Michoacan pirindas request that their rights as indigenous people are recognized.
