TROPE, Hélène. El loco por fuerza, trasunto de los sucesos de Aragón (1591). Algunas hipótesis de lectura. Cuicuilco [online]. 2009, vol.16, n.45, pp.113-135. ISSN 0185-1659.

El loco por fuerza by Lope de Vega was probably written between 1597 and 1608 and is set in Zaragoza and the Mountain. The comedy frames a conflict between two groups of characters, those from Castile and those from Aragon. Analyzed in light of the Aragonese revolt of 1591, it becomes apparent that the piece exalts Castile while denigrating Aragon's political aspirations. After describing the spaces, the representation of one of the play's settings, the lunatic hospital, is examined. The article then evaluates the possibility that the forced incarceration of the hero in the asylum represents the real imprisonment of Antonio Pérez, the ex minister of Felipe who was accused of killing Escobedo and who fled to Aragon. Finally, a joint reading with Los locos de Valencia, another Lope de Vega comedy, is offered. The two comedies present some striking similarities in reference to the Pérez affair and Pérez's Relaciones.
