GARCIA-OSORIO, Irma del Carmen; OLIVA-HERNANDEZ, Jorge  y  HINOJOSA-CUELLAR, José Alfonso. Tissue composition of the carcass of Blackbelly x Pelibuey suckling lambs. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2016, vol.3, n.8, pp.203-213. ISSN 2007-901X.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the umber of lambing of the ewe (NB) and the type of birth (TB) of suckling lambs on the tissue composition of the carcass and primal cuts. Twenty-eight Blackbelly x Pelibuey lambs were evaluated using a two-factor factorial design. The factors of the study were: primiparous and multiparous (NL), and single and twin (TB). The evaluated variables were: hot carcass weight (HCW), weight and yield of soft tissue (ST) and bone in the complete carcass. The TB influenced (p < 0.05) the HCW, ST and bone in the carcass, weight of ST in the leg and bone in the thorax. An association was observed (p < 0.01) between the ST and bone in the primal cuts with the weight of the ST and bone in the carcass. The predicting equations of the ST in carcass considered the weight of ST in arm (R2= 0.96; p < 0.01) in single lambs and weight of ST in leg (R2= 0.90, p < 0.01) in twin lambs. In conclusion, the type of birth affected the weight and tissue composition of the carcasses of Blackbelly x Pelibuey lambs. The weight of the soft tissue in the carcasses of single birth lambs was precisely estimated with the weight of soft tissue in the arm and with the weight of soft tissue in the leg in the case of twin.
