Resumen

SUBIRATS, Eduardo. El rapto de la memoria. Valenciana [online]. 2010, vol.3, n.5, pp.11-35. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v0i5.234.

The task of revising the dominant view of the foundational myths of hispanidad in the Iberian Peninsula and of the Eurocentric chronology of the colonial and civilizing process in Latin America still remains to be accomplished. Such a study would have to show how the cultural zenith produced by the passage of other cultures through Peninsular and Continental territories hardly complies with canonical Golden Age categories or their colonial after-images, not to mention the philosophical, scientific, and artistic expressions of the European Renaissance. The “golden ages” and finest scientific and artistic moments of Iberian cultures, as Américo Castro has shown, coincide with the acme of Islamic and Judaic cultures in XIIth and XIIIth century Arabic Spain.

Palabras llave : Golden Century; cultural studies; critical theory; democratic transition; literary hermeneutics.
