Resumen

RENDON-SANDOVAL, Francisco Javier  y  IBARRA-MANRIQUEZ, Guillermo. The genus Combretum (Combretaceae) in western Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2018, vol.89, n.2, pp.340-350. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2018.2.2144.

Based on botanical explorations, review of literature, and herbarium specimens (ENCB, GUADA, IBUG, IEB, MEXU, MO, XAL and ZEA), we report 5 species of the genus Combretum in western Mexico (1 and 4 of the subgenera Cacoucia and Combretum, respectively). One species (C. igneiflorum) is endemic to Mexico. Description of the species includes synonyms often used in Mexico, geographic distribution, common names, uses and phenology. An identification key for the species and photographs of each one are also presented. C. farinosum and C. fruticosum are distinct species, which differ in vegetative and reproductive characters, including flowering phenology. In a short term, it will be positive improve actions to conserve all species included in our study, especially C. igneiflorum.

Palabras llave : Lianas; Scandent shrubs; Tropical deciduous forest; Woody vines.
