Resumen

ROJAS-ZARATE, Yazmín  y  MONDRAGON, Demetria. Epiphytic bromeliads of the Zaachila district, Oaxaca, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2016, vol.87, n.1, pp.252-254. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rmb.2016.01.003.

Although there are bromeliad inventories for Mexico, some regions of the country have not yet been extensively sampled, as is the case of the district of Zaachila in Oaxaca. According to the literature, there are only 3 species of epiphytic bromeliads there. However, large areas of pine-oak and oak suggest a greater richness of epiphytic bromeliads. In order to complement Mexican bromeliad records, specifically in the Oaxacan region, 2 plots (1 ha/plot) were sampled in the 3 vegetation types reported for the District of Zaachila: pine, pine-oak and oak. The objective was the search of bromeliad species present in each type of vegetation. We found 17 species of bromeliads: 16 belonging to genus Tillandsia and 1 to genus Catopsis. The pine-oak forest was the most diverse, with 16 species; followed by oak forest, with 7 species, and pine forest with 2 species. We are presenting the first formal inventory of epiphytic bromeliads of the Zaachila District.
