Editorial

In the last 2011 issue of the Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society (JMCS), Prof. Joaquin Tamariz wrote his last Editorial of our journal, after a very successful effort as head of the Editorial Board since 2007. Beginning the year 2012, this responsibility and honor has been conferred to me by the Editorial Board for a three year period, until December 2014. In the last years, the JMCS has undergone several important changes in its editorial policies and procedures, promoted by its Editorial Board. The journal currently accetts only submissions that meet all the standards of the good international, teer–reviewed chemistry journals. The number of submissions from authors of countries other than Mexico has dramatically increased. The Editorial Board and the Advisory Board are composed by reput–ed, well–respected members of the different fields in chemistry. To have a better and more balanced composition, the Editorial Board has recently been extanded with five more members. All members have been requested to serve as Associate Editors in their areas of specialization with the idea of improving the handling of the increasing number of manuscritts of all areas of chemistry that we are now receiving. The JMCS is proud to have an Editorial Board whose members are not only very well–respected in their field communities, but are also active participants in the whole editorial process, being also constant authors in the journal. We hope that this and other coming adjustments —such as an online platform for manuscript submission and handling which is about to be ready— will benefit the whole editorial process and actors at JMCS. In recent years, the JMCS —which first appeared in 1957—, has come a long way to a current impact factor of 0.68 by the JCR. It is also listed in several other indices such as the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) index of Mexican scientific publications, Scielo–México, REDALYC and Latindex among others. I want to take this opportunity of addressing the whole actors at JMCS –authors, readers, referees, the Editorial Boards Members—and invite you all to continue and increase your participation and commitment to the improvement of quality submissions to the JMCS, your journal.
