We report an application of the Schwinger variational principle with plane waves as trial basis set. Elastic differential cross sections (DCS) for the scattering of electrons by CH₄ in the 10 to 100 eV energy range are available and our differential cross sections are found to be in reasonable agreement with existing measurements.
