Resumen

RODRIGUEZ-JACOBO, Sofía et al. Gastrointestinal tract bleeding as a manifestation of metastatic melanoma. Endoscopia [online]. 2022, vol.34, n.4, pp.120-122.  Epub 30-Ene-2024. ISSN 2444-6483.  https://doi.org/10.24875/end.23000011.

Melanoma is an aggressive tumor that can metastasize to the digestive tract. We present the case of an 84-year-old woman with a history of melanoma in the lower left extremity who came with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Endoscopy was performed, finding hyperpigmented lesions in the lower third of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum; as well as ulcerated lesions in the stomach and duodenum. Biopsies are performed, reporting metastatic melanoma. The diagnosis of metastases in the digestive tract is often challenging since most patients are asymptomatic. In cases of melanoma of the head, neck, trunk and lower extremities the search of metastatic melanoma should be carried out in order to identify them and initiate management.
