VILLANUEVA LIRA, José Ricardo y AQUINO SORIANO, Ezequiel. John Hobson and the Origins of International Political Economy. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.34, pp.54-71. Epub 31-Jul-2023. ISSN 1870-3569. https://doi.org/10.46530/cf.vi34/cnfns.n34.p54-71.
Conventionally, the origins of International Political Economy (IPE) are set in the early 1970s. Supposedly, economics was neglected by internationalists before that time. The purpose of this article is to show that this was not the case, but that what IPE experimented during those years was its reactivation since it was a field of study present since the early 20th century. Through a revisionist historiographical study of Hobson’s writings on imperialism, the article hopes to contribute to a more thorough understanding of the sub-disciplinary history of IPE at the same time that it seeks to lay the foundations for future research on other early 20th century internationalists.
