The hydrocarbons contained in the Play Eagle Ford in Texas, United States have been exploited successfully. This has contributed to increase the national hydrocarbons production and boosted the regional economic activity. This paper studies the challenges to expand the hydrocarbons exploitation in the Eagle Ford Play in the Mexican border. The study is supporting on the experiences faced in the development of activities on the US side and in the viability to encourage then in Piedras Negras, Hidalgo, Guerrero and Nava municipalities. It concluded that there are potential reserves and certain favorable conditions to exploit the hydrocarbons in the municipalities under study, but the uncertainty about the contrasting positions around its development, in environmental, operational, legal and political terms, are factors that would influence its profitability and competitiveness with respect to its counterpart in Texas, USA.
