Resumen

DARRIGRANDI, Claudia. City, Affections and Emotions in La cara de la miseria (1926) by José Osorio Lizarazo. Latinoamérica [online]. 2023, n.76, pp.83-103.  Epub 17-Mar-2023. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2023.76.57541.

The objective of this article is to analyze the book La cara de la miseria (1926) by José Antonio Osorio Lizarazo. While literary criticism has emphasized his social perspective, this article aims to analyze his journey through the city with an emphasis on spaces that challenge the imaginary of the modern city. He builds the image of a city-archipelago. In addition, the article explores Osorio Lizarazo as an “investigator of emotions”, an issue that has gone unnoticed. The methodology relies on textual analysis based on the mobile turn and the theory of affects. It is concluded that the professional journalist affects and is affected by contact with urban materiality and the inhabitants of the city-archipelago. Therefore, Osorio Lizarazo is a mediator between the city and the suburbs who also investigates himself and recognizes himself as part of both spaces.
