MORALES VALENZUELA, Guadalupe; VILLEGAS RAMIREZ, María Isabel  y  DE LOS SANTOS RUIZ, Cynthia Paola. Culture-nature in the highland of Tabasco: Biocultural heritage of the Ch’oles of Tacotalpa. LiminaR [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.2, e935.  Epub 18-Nov-2022. ISSN 2007-8900.  https://doi.org/10.29043/liminar.v20i2.935.

The objective of this research was to identify the elements of the biocultural heritage of the Ch’ol people of Tacotalpa, Tabasco. Structured interviews, participant observation, and open dialogues were carried out. The most valued natural resources are landscapes, water, cornfields, plants, and animals. Problems of availability of these resources due to natural phenomena, lack management skills, and COVID-19 were mentioned. The most important cultural aspects are their values, traditions and customs, and their indigenous language. The most popular socio-cultural practices are mayordomía [a type of cultural stewardship], healing rituals, petitioning for rain, and blessing of seeds. The Ch’oles of Tacotalpa conserve the elements of their biocultural heritage.
