Background:
The surgical or endovascular repair of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) is an absolute indication, however, these procedures and particularly open surgeries have a significant number of complications.
Objective:
To describe the most frequent post-surgical complications in patients with ruptured AAA.
Method:
Descriptive, observational, and retrospective study carried out in the Angiology, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Service of the Specialties Hospital Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI. Patients admitted between January 2019 and March 2021, with ruptured AAA, of any age, were included.
Results:
14 files were identified. One patient had diabetes mellitus, seven had hypertension, four had heart disease. Three presented intraoperative hypovolemic shock. Postoperative renal failure was the most common complication, followed by hypovolemic shock. Eleven patients died, three in the immediate postoperative period, eight in the immediate postoperative period, and three in the late postoperative period.
Conclusions:
The most observed complication in the transoperative period was hypovolemic shock. During the transoperative period, renal failure was mainly observed, as well as hypovolemic shock.
