Resumen

GIDI BLANCHET, Claudia Elisa. From bandit to saint: rumor and dramatic art in Óscar Liera. Rev. hist. Am. [online]. 2021, n.161, pp.415-434.  Epub 21-Feb-2022. ISSN 2663-371X.  https://doi.org/10.35424/rha.161.2021.1060.

Drama has been an ideal space to elaborate artistic images based on historical figures that have become part of the popular heritage. Such is the case of El Jinete de la Divina Providencia, a dramatic text in which Óscar Liera, one of the most important Mexican playwrights of the twentieth century, gives life to Jesús Malverde, an almost mythical character who survives in the collective memory as a good bandit, who stole from the rich to give to the poor. In this essay I analyze some of the artistic procedures that Liera implements to rework a social conflict -in which the figure of the holy bandit stands out.

Palabras llave : social bandit; Mexican theater; legend; popular religiosity; collective memory.
