LOGBO ALFARO, Dali Ixchel. The Creative Process and the Sketching Stage in Undergraduate Design Students in Mexico. Zincografía [online]. 2017, vol.1, n.1, pp.108-123. Epub 09-Oct-2020. ISSN 2448-8437. https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v0i1.19.
This paper seeks to identify the impact that creative education and particularly, the sketching process has on the development of the competencies of creativity and innovation for students in undergraduate Graphic Design or similar programs in Mexico.
The research has two main branches: In one, we analyze the curricula of the twenty best universities with undergraduate Graphic Design programs in Mexico based on the 2016 ranking of Universities by the magazine AméricaEconomía. The purpose of the analysis is to determine how these degree programs are structured with regard to the creative process.
The aforementioned ranking was chosen because it uses a reliable methodology that is updated yearly and is focused around 6 areas: teaching quality 30%, research 20%, reputation among employers 20%, postgraduate opportunities 15%, international prestige 10% and accreditation 5%. On the other hand, in order to understand the impact that the inclusion of the subject Creativity and Sketching has on the curricula, we analyzed the sketching process in students of the last year of the Graphic Design program.
The results reflect a low level of creativity and innovation which can be related to the meagre education that students received regarding the development of their creative capacity.
