The PRESEEA project studies attenuation as a social-variable phenomenon. This paper presents the analysis of attenuating devices and mechanisms in six interviews from low sociocultural level speakers taken from PRESEEA-Puebla. Firstly, I exemplify attenuating devices and strategies organized according to the typology of Albelda y Cestero (2011), and then I present a description of their use according to the social variables of sex and age. These findings show that in 46.74% of the speech turns there are mitigation.
