Abstract: The present work shows the results of a completed investigation in relation to the understanding of the Decimal Metric System in primary school. We design, implement and analyze a didactic situation through games in the yard. They consist of adding units and tens. To interpret our results, we analyzed the records in the children’s notebooks and the uses of numbers, as well as the conversations between students, when carrying out the game activities in teams made up of first, second and third grade students from a multi-grade public primary school. This allowed us to identify the conditions of rural children, their level of learning and critical reflection of teaching practice in the area of mathematics in schools where teachers work with two or more grades at the same time.
