DOMINGUEZ RASCON, Alonso. Autonomy, insurgency and oligarchy: internal provinces and the shaping of northern states. Hist. mex. [online]. 2017, vol.66, n.3, pp.1023-1075. ISSN 2448-6531.
This article shows the role played by the Internal Provinces of the West and the East in the insurgent-counterinsurgent war of 1810. It first presents a characterisation of these provinces based on the creation of the Commandancy General of the Internal Provinces as a jurisdiction that, even though it experienced periods of autonomy and dependence vis-à-vis the viceroyalty, was very important in the institutionalization and stability of the Septentrión. Afterwards, the formation of northern states is dealt with, whose first prerogative was maintaining autonomy. Northern deputies moved along three autonomic levels: local, provincial and multi-provincial, with the first one prevailing at the end.
