Resumen

CARVAJAL VEITIA, Wiliam. Past, present and future of the evaluation of body composition in Cuban athletes. An. antropol. [online]. 2021, vol.55, n.2, pp.237-247.  Epub 16-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6221.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iia.24486221e.2021.76634.

This paper gives an overview of the evolution of body composition studies (CC) in the Cuban medical sports system. It goes from the precursor stage to the international level, where the emergence of traditional methods of employment for research in athletes is detailed; going through the first Cuban contributions, based on studies of hydrostatic weighing, and in generalized novel proposals at a national and international level. Finally, the most recent contributions are highlighted, where it is deepened in its importance in the improvement of CC investigations. For the exploration, all the existing documentary sources were accessed, from the search of the sources of the National Institute of Sports and Recreation of Cuba, as well as from the World Information Network. A chronological ordering of the sources that constitute the common thread of the present proposal was made. The importance of this research is that, in a very simple way, it describes how successive degrees of approximation to reality have been given to the study of a pillar of Kinanthropometry that still has many limitations for its study at the international level “body composition “
