SAN GIACOMO TRINIDAD, Marcela y MENDOZA HERNANDEZ, Diego. Linguistic Landscape in Dibaku (Cuicateco): Progress and Challenges. An. antropol. [online]. 2021, vol.55, n.2, pp.63-80. Epub 16-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6221. https://doi.org/10.22201/iia.24486221e.2021.77813.
The study of linguistic landscape is a way of identifying the relation-ships and tensions between different linguistic groups within the same locality. This article presents the experience of modifying the linguistic landscape of San Juan Bautista Cuicatlan, Oaxaca, based on two interventions in the public space during 2019 and 2020. The modifications consisted on the placement of bilingual signage, in Cuicateco and Spanish, both on the streets and in public buildings. Our approach points out that the modification of the linguistic landscape, in similar contexts to Cuicatlan, can be a way of resignifying the symbolic spaces associated with the dominant language and that it can be combined with strategies of revaluation and revitalization of languages.
